Chapter 13
Chapter 13:.
Dolores was petrified on the spot. She didn’t see Sampson’s embrace coming.
When she came to, she tried to wriggle out of his embrace.
From Matthew’s perspective, they were like a couple cooing at each other.
His eyebrows couldn’t help but furrow.
Helen commented nonchalantly, “I didn’t expect her to actually have a boyfriend.”
Matthew suddenly felt very uneasy.
He stepped hard on the pedal and the car sped away.
Helen pursed her lips and asked, “Are you mad about that?”
Matthew laughed coldly, “Why would I be mad about it?”
She was pregnant, so it was normal for her to have sex with other guys too.
He was just frustrated for no reason after seeing her with other men.
Soon, the car stopped in front of Helen’s residence. She did not get out of the car immediately as she looked longingly at Matthew, “Don’t you want to come over to my place for a while?”.
As if afraid of being rejected, Helen added, “Matthew, I’ve prepared your favorite meal-”
“Helen.” Matthew interrupted her. He was confused by her frustration at this point. He stroked her hair and said, “I won’t be stopping by today. Please rest first.”
“But…” Helen didn’t finish the sentence, instead opting to obediently get out of the car, “Please drive carefully.”

Matthew mumbled in reply before speeding away.
For some reason, it took him less time than usual to get home. When he entered his house, Dolores still hadn’t returned.
He unbuttoned his shirt as he asked, “What time did she go out?”
“He went out at noon.” Coral got his coat and asked, “Do you want to have dinner now?”.
“Later.” He had no appetite at the moment.
The two buttons near his neck had come off. He no longer felt suffocated by the shirt, but that didn’t reduce the restlessness in his heart.
It was a really strange feeling. He felt really uneasy.
He pushed open the door to his study. Dolores’ memo was still on the table. He picked it up and let out a cold laugh, “You’re really good at acting. On the one hand, you make yourself look very pitiful in front of me, but behind my back, you’re fooling around with other men. Dolores, you really are different.”
He crumpled the memo vehemently after saying that.
Dolores hailed a cab home. Initially, Sampson had offered to send her home, but she didn’t want him to know about her connection to Matthew.
Therefore, she had turned him down.
There was only Coral at home, so Dolores thought Matthew had not yet returned. She felt herself relax considerably.
Coral noticed Dolores’s good mood, so she asked, “Have you been happy about anything lately?”
Dolores produced a smile, thinking there was nothing particularly exciting. “I feel more at ease without him around.” Coral didn’t know what to answer her.
“You mean he shouldn’t be here?” Suddenly, her long, slender figure appeared in the doorway of her study. She leaned against the doorjamb lazily, and her tone sounded carefree and mocking at the same time.
This voice…
Dolores turned stiffly and her eyes fell on the man leaning against the doorjamb. He had a shadowed expression on his face.
Why was he at home at that moment?
There was no sign that he had come home before this, so Dolores assumed that he was not home yet. That was why she could speak so casually.
“I…” Dolores wanted to explain, but Matthew bypassed her and headed for the dining room. He was asking Coral to serve the food.
Dolores settled quietly in her seat next to the dining room table. She wanted to speak for herself several times, but nothing came out of her mouth.
Matthew never once cast a glance in her direction the entire time. However, when he finished eating, he suddenly said, “Come with me to the study.”
Dolores immediately put down her chopsticks and followed him into his office.
Matthew sat down next to her desk and placed the stack of translated sheets in front of her. He looked at her lightly, “Do you know how to speak the language of Country A?” Dolores nodded earnestly.
Matthew was intrigued by this fact, “Why did you learn this language? It’s not used much in the world.”
The language was native to a place where he had spent eight years of his life. There was too much unspoken pain hidden deep in his heart.
The point was that no one could understand her pain. Only she knew how belittled and despised she was during that time.
She didn’t want to reveal her weakness in front of anyone.
With a weak but forced smile on her face, she replied, “I learned it because I like it.”
Matthew couldn’t help but frown after hearing that. Despite her cheerful facade, he could catch a fleeting sense of pain under her eyes.
What was she trying to hide?
“Come here.” He spoke softly.
Dolores hesitated as she heard him. She could never understand what this man was thinking at any given moment, but she had no choice but to heed him.noveldrama
She slowly approached him.
Matthew placed a document in front of her, “Since you know the language, translate this document for me.”
Dolores looked at the document and noticed the words ‘WY Group’ printed in the upper right corner of the document.
She was too busy translating the contents without noticing these words.
She couldn’t help but raise her head and ask, “Can’t they hire a translator?”.
Matthew raised his eyebrows slightly.
Dolores took the document and said quietly, “I tried to have an interview for the translator position at your company. It seemed like they really wanted me for the position, but then, for some reason, they crossed me off as unsuitable for this job.”
“Did that really happen?” her expression and tone exuded mystery and enigma.
Dolores mumbled an answer in affirmation. It made no sense for her to lie about this.
“I can translate this document for you, but…” Dolores wasn’t the type to only think of the benefits she could get from this. She just desperately needed a break since she had nothing right now. She had to get this job even if it was out of her reach.
Matthew studied her carefully and dashed her hopes before she could suggest anything, “If you’re thinking of involving Repulse Bay in this, I’d have to say no. The Flores Family would not be able to acquire the land for now.”
Indeed, Dolores was going to broach the subject, but she was going to take that land for herself rather than let Randolph own it. That way, she could finally secure a bargaining chip that would allow her to speak on equal terms with Randolph.
Obviously, her idea had been rejected even before she could put it forward.
A measly translation job, of course, would not allow her to leverage it to gain a piece of land for herself.
“You can compensate me with money.” Since he couldn’t get his mother’s dowry back for now, he had to earn more money so his mother could live comfortably. In the future, she would have a baby. She needed a lot of money to make her future bright.
Dolores turned the pages of the document slowly and counted the pages. There were twenty pages in all. “I’ll charge one hundred yuan for translating one page. That’s a pretty fair deal if you ask me.” Matthew remained silent upon hearing that.
Did the Flores Family have so little money?
This woman’s behavior was increasingly confusing, to say the least.
Matthew did not produce an answer, so Dolores thought Matthew was reluctant to give her that amount, “The amount I just mentioned isn’t really that much, you know. If you think it’s too much, can I… reduce my price?”
“No need. I’ll pay you what you’ve asked for.”
“Okay then.” Dolores took the document and stood up, “I need some time to translate them completely. I’ll do it in my room and send it here when I’m done.”
“Wait a moment.”
“Yes?”
Dolores looked at him with doubt in her eyes.
He said what sounded like a warning, “I hope you can understand something.”
